About counselling

About counselling

Counselling is a one-to-one talking therapy delivered by trained, skilful practitioners who work with people to help increase awareness, make effective life changes, and enhance mental wellbeing.

Counselling is not giving advice, nor is it the same as a supportive chat with friends or family. A counsellor is empathic, non-judgemental, and able to work with your emotions from an impartial standpoint without becoming emotionally involved themselves. Sessions take place at regular times and days in a confidential and private setting. Counselling can help with issues like:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Stress
  • Low self-esteem
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Bereavement
  • Phobias and obsessive/compulsive patterns
  • Sex and sexuality issues

About my counselling

About my counselling

I offer individual and couples counselling for a wide range of issues and problems to adults living in and around Maidstone, Tonbridge and Malling. I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor.

My aim is to offer a safe, supportive, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to talk about your situation and to explore your options. I work in a way that values and respects all of your experience, bringing heightened awareness and perhaps discovering new resources with which to tackle difficulties.

I am also a qualified nurse, and have a special interest in the relationship between physical and mental health and the impact of health problems on mental well-being.

My counselling training is in the person-centred tradition and after many years of practice I know work in an Integrative way.  I have also studied Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and although I am not a CBT therapist I am able to make use of this approach for specific difficulties.

About my practice

About my practice

I run my counselling practice from Kings Hill in West Malling, near to Maidstone in Kent. An initial session gives us both an opportunity to assess how we can work together. If we decide to continue, we will schedule regular sessions of 50 minutes, with opportunities for review at any time. I also offer supervision for other practicing counsellors.

The session fee is £50 for individuals, £55 for couples and £50 for supervision. The fee can be paid by cash, cheque; or by bank transfer. I also maintain a limited number of reduced cost places, ask about this if you are not able to afford the regular fee. I ask that sessions cancelled with less than a day’s notice are paid for, however I do allow for one unavoidable cancellation every six months without payment.
